Diarmuid B. O'Connell is the former Vice President of Business and Corporate Development and was a member of the executive team at Tesla, Inc., a global designer, developer, manufacturer and seller of fully electric vehicles, serving in this role from July 2006 to September 2017.
He subsequently served as Chief Strategy Officer, Global Head of Business Development and Partnerships of Fair, a vehicle leasing subscription service, and previously served as Chief of Staff for Political Military Affairs at the United States State Department. Earlier in his career he worked in corporate strategy as a management consultant for Accenture, as co-founder of educational software developer Real Time Learning, and as a senior executive with both McCann Erickson Worldwide and Young and Rubicam. He has been appointed to assume the role of Lead Independent Director effective April 22, 2026.
