Ellen V. Futter is President of the Markle Foundation. She previously served as President of the American Museum of Natural History from November 1993 through March 15, 2023, when she was elected President Emerita.

Earlier she served as President of Barnard College, and before that was a corporate attorney at Milbank LLP (formerly Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy). She also served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and was on the Board of Trustees and several committees for Consolidated Edison Co. of New York Inc.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, from Barnard College and earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School.
