David Schellhase serves as Okta's Lead Independent Director and has been a director since 2025; he is a member of the Audit and Compensation and Governance Committees. He served as General Counsel at Slack, Groupon and Salesforce, bringing deep experience in public company governance, regulatory compliance and board-level legal oversight.
He advised on technology-focused corporate matters both as an in-house executive and as Of Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, and currently serves as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Ballistic Ventures, a cybersecurity-focused venture capital firm. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University, School of Management Science and Engineering.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and a Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School.
