Derek J. Leathers is Werner Enterprises' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, serving as Chairman since May 2021 and CEO since May 2016. He was Vice Chairman in 2020-21 and President from 2011 to January 2024. The Board appointed him as a director in May 2020, and stockholders initially elected him in May 2021.

He has worked in the transportation and logistics industry for more than 30 years. Throughout his tenure at Werner, which he joined in 1999, he has held integral roles across the organization, including establishing the company's Mexico operations and overseeing all the asset operating groups. Prior to joining Werner he spent eight years at Schneider National, part of it based in Mexico City, where he was one of the first foreign members of Mexico's trucking association (CANACAR). He holds an economics degree from Princeton University.
