James L. Johnson is Werner Enterprises' Executive Vice President of Accounting Administration. He joined the company in 1991 as Manager of Financial Reporting and was subsequently appointed Assistant Controller (1992), Director of Accounting (1994), Controller (1996), Vice President and Controller (2000), and Senior Vice President and Controller (2005).

He also served as Werner's Chief Accounting Officer from 2010 to March 2026 and Corporate Secretary from 1996 to August 2023. On February 24, 2026, he advised the company he would retire as Chief Accounting Officer effective March 1, 2026, remaining with the company to transition his responsibilities. Prior to Werner, he was a certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1985 until 1991. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting.
