Brent Shafer is the Non-Executive Chair of Baxter International's Board of Directors and has served as a director of the company since 2022. He previously served as Baxter's Interim Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chair of the Board from February 2025 to August 2025, and earlier as the Board's Lead Independent Director from 2023.
Mr. Shafer is the former Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cerner Corporation, a leading provider of health information technologies, serving in that role from 2018 to 2021 and then as Senior Advisor from 2021 to 2022. Prior to Cerner, he held a number of roles at Philips Healthcare, including Chief Executive Officer of Philips North America (2014 to 2018), Chief Executive Officer of the Philips Home Healthcare Solution business (2010 to 2014), Chief Executive Officer of the North America region for Royal Philips Electronics (2009 to 2010), and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Healthcare Sales and Service business for Philips North America (2005 to 2010).
Earlier in his career, Mr. Shafer held senior roles at Hill-Rom, GE Medical Systems, Hewlett Packard's Medical Products Group, and Johnson & Johnson. He currently serves as a director of Tactile Systems Technology, Inc. and Veracyte, Inc.
