David M. Rubenstein is a Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of Carlyle, having previously served as Co-Chief Executive Officer. Prior to co-founding Carlyle in 1987 he practiced law in Washington, D.C. with Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge LLP and in New York with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP from 1973 to 1975.

He served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy from 1977 to 1981 and as Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments from 1975 to 1976. He holds a degree from Duke University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and a JD from the University of Chicago Law School.
