ForRent, a division of Dominion Enterprises, provided digital advertising through a network of four multifamily websites including ForRent.com, AFTER55.com, CorporateHousing.com and ForRentUniversity.com. ForRent had approximately 17,000 properties advertised, generated over 47 million visits in the first half of 2017, and was headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia with about 475 employees. CoStar added ForRent to the Apartments.com network. $350 million in cash and $35 million in CoStar Group stock.

Through subsidiaries CoStar Realty Information and CoStar Portfolio Strategy, CoStar agreed to acquire all outstanding equity of STR, Inc. (a Tennessee corporation) and STR Global, Ltd. (registered in England and Wales) from the Smith family sellers under a Securities Purchase Agreement. STR is a leading provider of hotel and hospitality benchmarking data and analytics. A separate agreement covered the minority shareholder of STR Global. $450 million in cash (aggregate purchase price, subject to adjustments).
CoStar subsidiary CSGP Holdings agreed to acquire the reorganized RentPath, a provider of digital media services to residential real estate clients, for $587.5 million in cash through RentPath's Chapter 11 plan of reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The transaction was subsequently terminated after the Federal Trade Commission opposed the acquisition, and the deal never closed. $587.5 million in cash (agreement later terminated; deal never closed).
CoStar entered a binding Scheme Implementation Deed to acquire 100% of Domain Holdings Australia, a leading Australian property marketplace. In February 2025 CoStar had acquired roughly 17% of Domain's shares at A$4.20 per share for about A$452 million. Under the scheme, CoStar agreed to pay A$4.43 per share for the balance, valuing Domain at an implied enterprise value of about A$3.0 billion. The Domain board unanimously recommended shareholders vote in favor, subject to shareholder, court, and Australian Foreign Investment Review Board approvals. A$4.43 per share, implying an enterprise value of about A$3.0 billion; roughly A$2.3 billion (about $1.5 billion) for the remaining shares, after an earlier A$452 million (about $285 million) stake for approximately 17%.
Zonda is a leading provider of new home construction data, homebuilder software, and residential real estate marketplaces, serving more than 3,000 customers across the homebuilding ecosystem. Its platform spans land acquisition, development planning, homebuilding analytics, construction forecasting, and community marketing, built on a proprietary lot-level database. Zonda also operates the NewHomeSource and Livabl new-home marketplaces in the U.S. and Canada. Its largely subscription revenue carries about 104% net customer retention. $800 million in cash.
CoStar Group acquired Business Immo, France's leading commercial real estate news service, completing the deal in April 2022. Launched in 2004, Business Immo had grown into the country's premier online property news source, drawing more than 300,000 unique visitors a month, among them brokers, investors, developers and lenders. The addition strengthened CoStar's growing global news operation, which already spanned the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany, along with its Hotel News Now hospitality coverage. EUR 5.8 million ($6.3 million), net of cash acquired and the assumption of outstanding debt.
CoStar Group acquired Ag-Analytics, an agricultural data and analytics company whose AcreValue platform provides land valuations, ownership data, and mapping across millions of U.S. rural parcels. The deal augments CoStar's Land.com marketplace, which will incorporate AcreValue valuations covering roughly 2.8 million parcels of land. It marks CoStar Group's extension into the agricultural land sector, strengthening data capabilities for farmland, forestland, recreational, and other rural properties.
LeaseTrend was an early market-expansion acquisition through which CoStar extended its commercial real estate information coverage further into the Midwest and Florida. The business added local leasing and availability data to CoStar's growing national database.
CoStar acquired Jamison Research to expand its commercial real estate information coverage into the Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth markets. The deal added local market research and property data to CoStar's platform.
Matterport, founded in 2011, pioneered 3D capture technology that creates dimensionally accurate photorealistic virtual tours, or digital twins, of any property. Its patented technology, flagship LiDAR-based Pro3 camera, and Cortex AI engine power the world's largest spatial data library with over 14 million spaces and 50 billion square feet digitized across 177 countries. CoStar acquired Matterport in a cash-and-stock transaction to accelerate AI-driven digital twin technology across its product lines. $5.50 per share ($2.75 cash plus $2.75 in CoStar stock), an estimated $1.6 billion of enterprise value.

In November 2024, CoStar acquired Visual Lease, the operator of a SaaS platform for integrated lease management and lease accounting. Total consideration of $276.0 million.
On December 12, 2023, CoStar UK acquired OnTheMarket, the operator of onthemarket.com, a U.K. residential property portal, purchasing all issued ordinary share capital. 110 pence per share, or GBP 94.0 million ($117.9 million), in cash; total consideration of GBP 96.0 million ($120.4 million) including a share-option liability.
On October 1, 2021, CoStar acquired all of the share capital interests in Comreal Info, the French owner and operator of BureauxLocaux, a leading commercial real estate digital marketplace in France. Base purchase price of EUR 35 million ($41 million) in cash, subject to customary working-capital and other post-closing adjustments.
On May 24, 2021, CoStar completed the acquisition of Homes.com from Landmark, a residential real estate advertising and marketing services company, acquiring all outstanding equity interests. $150 million in cash purchase price; total consideration of $152 million.
On December 22, 2020, CoStar acquired all of the equity interests in Homesnap, Inc., an online and mobile software platform providing user-friendly applications for residential real estate agents and brokers. $250 million in cash.
On October 26, 2020 CoStar acquired Emporis GmbH, a Germany-based provider of international commercial real estate data and images covering buildings across more than 100 countries. CoStar subsequently merged Emporis into one of its German subsidiaries and began integrating its content into the CoStar platform.
CoStar Realty Information acquired Ten-X, an online commercial real estate auction and transaction platform, through the merger of Crescendo Sub into Ten-X, with Ten-X surviving as a wholly owned subsidiary. The equityholders of Ten-X, including funds managed by Thomas H. Lee Partners, received an aggregate $190 million in cash. $190 million in cash (aggregate purchase price, subject to adjustments).
On June 12, 2019 CoStar acquired Off Campus Partners, LLC, a provider of student-housing marketplace content and technology to U.S. universities. The acquisition extended CoStar's rental marketplaces into the student-housing segment.
On November 8, 2018 CoStar acquired Cozy Services, Ltd., a leading U.S. provider of online rental solutions offering property listings, rent estimates, rental applications, tenant screening, online rent payments and expense tracking. CoStar planned to integrate the Cozy technology into Apartments.com.
On October 12, 2018 CoStar acquired all of the issued share capital of Realla Ltd., operator of a commercial property listings and data management platform in the United Kingdom, including a free-to-list search engine for commercial property. The acquisition strengthened CoStar's U.K. commercial property marketplace.
On July 18, 2017 CoStar acquired The Screening Pros, LLC, an online apartment leasing platform providing tenant screening services, rental applications, payments processing and lease renewals. The platform complemented CoStar's Apartments.com rental network.
On May 10, 2017 CoStar acquired the LandWatch.com business, a leading online marketplace dedicated to land and rural properties, through the purchase of related assets from Datasphere Technologies, Inc. LandWatch was added to CoStar's Land.com network alongside LandsofAmerica and LandAndFarm.
On January 31, 2017 CoStar acquired Koa Lei, Inc., doing business as Westside Rentals, an online marketplace specializing in Southern California real estate rentals, together with affiliated Westside Credit Services, LLC, a provider of credit checks and tenant screening. The site was added to the Apartments.com network of rental marketing sites.
On May 3, 2016 CoStar acquired Thomas Daily GmbH, a commercial real estate news and information provider operating in Freiburg, Germany. The acquisition expanded CoStar's international operations into key German markets.
On July 1, 2015 CoStar acquired the assets of Belbex Corporate, S.L., a commercial real estate information provider operating in Madrid, Spain. The acquisition expanded CoStar's international information services into the Spanish market.
On June 1, 2015 CoStar acquired 100% of Network Communications, Inc. (NCI), including its Apartment Finder business, a provider of lead generation, advertising and internet marketing solutions to property managers and owners through ApartmentFinder.com. The deal furthered CoStar's expansion into the multifamily vertical alongside Apartments.com.
CoStar purchased the Apartments.com business, including certain assets and assumed liabilities, from Classified Ventures, LLC under an Asset Purchase Agreement. The deal gave CoStar a leading multifamily rental listings marketplace, funded in part through a new $400 million term loan and $225 million revolving credit facility. $585 million in cash ($587 million paid at closing after a net working capital adjustment).
LoopNet operated the leading online commercial real estate marketplace, with 5.8 million registered members and approximately 3.6 million unique monthly visitors at the time of closing. CoStar acquired LoopNet through a merger of Lonestar Acquisition Sub into LoopNet, and planned to continue operating LoopNet as a separate brand. $16.50 in cash plus 0.03702 shares of CoStar common stock per LoopNet share.

On October 25, 2011 CoStar acquired Virtual Premise, Inc., an Atlanta-based software-as-a-service provider of real estate information management solutions, including lease administration and abstraction services. The acquisition added corporate real estate management tools to CoStar's offerings.
On October 19, 2009 CoStar acquired Resolve Technology, Inc., a Massachusetts-based provider of business intelligence and portfolio management software used by institutional real estate investment companies. The acquisition added portfolio-analysis tools to CoStar's platform.
On July 17, 2009 CoStar acquired Property and Portfolio Research, Inc. and its U.K. subsidiary from DMG Information, Inc. PPR provided real estate analysis, market forecasts and credit-risk analytics to the commercial real estate industry, adding analytical and forecasting capabilities that later formed the basis of CoStar Portfolio Strategy.
In 2009 CoStar acquired First CLS, Inc., which did business as the Dorey Companies and DoreyPRO, an Atlanta-based provider of local commercial real estate information.
In February 2007 CoStar's U.K. subsidiary acquired Property Investment Exchange Limited (Propex), a London-based provider of commercial property information and operator of an electronic platform for exchanging investment property. The deal broadened CoStar's U.K. market research capabilities.
In December 2006 CoStar's U.K. subsidiary acquired Grecam S.A.S., a Paris-based provider of commercial property information and market-level surveys, studies and consulting services. Grecam operates the Observatoire Immobilier d'Entreprise service covering office and industrial buildings across the Paris region.
In January 2005 CoStar acquired National Research Bureau, a Connecticut-based provider of U.S. shopping center information. The acquisition anchored CoStar's expansion into retail real estate information.
In September 2004 CoStar acquired substantially all of the assets of RealComp, Inc., a local comparable-sales information provider, strengthening CoStar's position in the Denver, Colorado market.
In May 2004 CoStar expanded into Tennessee through the acquisition of Peer Market Research, Inc., adding local commercial real estate research coverage.
In 2004 CoStar extended its U.K. coverage through the acquisition of Scottish Property Network, adding commercial real estate information for the Scottish market.
In January 2003 CoStar established its base in the United Kingdom by acquiring London-based FOCUS Information Limited, later renamed CoStar U.K. Limited. The acquisition marked CoStar's entry into the European commercial real estate information market.
In September 2002 CoStar acquired certain assets of Napier Realty Advisors, which did business as REAL-NET, extending CoStar's commercial real estate information coverage into the Portland, Oregon market.
In November 2000 CoStar acquired First Image Technologies, Inc., a California-based provider of commercial real estate software. The deal added software capabilities to CoStar's information offerings.
In February 2000 CoStar acquired COMPS.COM, Inc., a San Diego-based provider of commercial real estate transaction and comparable-sales information. The acquisition significantly expanded CoStar's national database of verified commercial property sale comparables.
