Crown Castle entered into a definitive agreement to acquire from Wireless Capital Partners, LLC ("WCP") a portfolio of ground lease related assets for approximately $180 million in cash plus additional consideration. The transaction gave Crown Castle control of ground lease interests underlying wireless communications sites.
In 2022 Crown Castle acquired VergX, expanding its managed solutions capabilities including Managed SD-WAN, security and related network services. The acquisition broadened Crown Castle's enterprise managed and security offerings layered on top of its fiber and infrastructure assets.
In March 1999 Crown Castle entered into an agreement to purchase approximately 650 wireless communications towers and related assets from Powertel, Inc. The towers, largely more than 100 feet tall and able to accommodate multiple tenants, were folded into Crown Castle's U.S. tower operations, with Powertel remaining an anchor carrier tenant. Crown Castle accounted for the transaction as an acquisition under the purchase method.
In March 1999 Crown Castle agreed to acquire the operating rights to approximately 1,850 towers from BellSouth Mobility Inc. and BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. Structured as a long-term lease that BellSouth treated as a sale of the towers for tax purposes, the portfolio represented substantially all of the towers in BellSouth's 850 MHz wireless network across the southeastern and midwestern United States. A related June 1999 sublease agreement covered additional BellSouth DCS towers.
In May 2006 Crown Castle agreed to acquire all of the outstanding equity interests of privately held Mountain Union Telecom, LLC, a tower developer and operator founded in 1999 that focused on towers in well-populated, difficult-to-zone markets with robust carrier demand. At closing the portfolio was expected to include 468 completed sites plus 79 towers in various stages of development, generating roughly $26 million in annualized site rental revenue, with concentrations in Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas. The transaction was expected to close on or about July 1, 2006.

Crown Castle acquired 24/7 Mid-Atlantic Network, a regional fiber network operator, expanding its metro fiber footprint to support small cell backhaul and connectivity in the Mid-Atlantic region.
LTS Group Holdings LLC, operating as Lightower, a fiber services provider that owned or had rights to approximately 32,000 route miles of fiber located primarily in top metro markets in the Northeast, including Boston, New York and Philadelphia. Crown Castle acquired Lightower from Berkshire Partners, Pamlico and other investors for approximately $7.1 billion in cash. The addition brought Crown Castle's fiber footprint to over 60,000 route miles. approximately $7.1 billion.

Crown Castle acquired privately-held Wilcon Holdings LLC from Pamlico Capital and other unit holders for approximately $600 million. Wilcon is a fiber services provider that owned approximately 1,900 route miles of fiber, primarily in Los Angeles and San Diego. Pro forma for the deal, Crown Castle owned or had rights to over 28,000 route miles of fiber.

On November 1, 2016, we announced a definitive agreement to acquire FPL FiberNet Holdings, LLC and certain other subsidiaries of NextEra Energy, Inc. (collectively, "FiberNet") for approximately $1.5 billion in cash, subject to certain limited adjustments. Crown Castle acquired Tower Development Corporation ("TDC"), a portfolio company of Berkshire Partners, in an all-cash transaction. TDC owned and operated a portfolio of 336 wireless communications towers across the United States and Puerto Rico with an average tenancy of roughly two tenants per tower. The deal folded these sites into Crown Castle's U.S. tower portfolio.
Crown Castle acquired Quanta Fiber Networks, Inc. (Sunesys), a wholly owned subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR), for approximately $1.0 billion in cash. Sunesys is a fiber services provider that owned or had rights to nearly 10,000 miles of fiber in major metropolitan markets including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Silicon Valley and northern New Jersey, with approximately 60% of fiber miles in the top 10 basic trading areas. approximately $1.0 billion.

Crown Castle acquired the exclusive right to lease and operate approximately 9,700 AT&T towers for $4.85 billion in cash at closing, for a weighted average term of approximately 28 years, with an option to purchase the towers at the end of the respective lease terms for aggregate option payments of approximately $4.2 billion (primarily between 2032 and 2048).

Crown Castle completed its acquisition of NewPath Networks, Inc., one of the leading providers of distributed antenna systems ("DAS"), a form of small cell solution. The purchase extended Crown Castle's presence in distributed antenna / small cell infrastructure that complements its tower business.
Crown Castle merged with Global Signal Inc. (NYSE: GSL) in a stock-and-cash transaction valued at approximately $5.8 billion including debt. The combination brought together two of the nation's leading tower companies with over 24,000 wireless sites and over 16,000 towers in the top 100 BTAs.
