James R. Fitterling is the Lead Independent Director of 3M and Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Dow Inc.

As CEO of Dow (since 2018), Mr. Fitterling has overseen the company's transformation toward higher-growth, consumer demand-driven markets. He previously served as President and COO of Dow and as COO of DowDuPont's Materials Science division. He has a decade of international operations experience in Asia, including roles as Commercial Director for Dow's Liquid Separations business in Asia (1994-1998), General Manager of Dow Thailand (2000-2002), and CEO of The OPTIMAL Group (2002-2006), a joint venture between Dow and Malaysia's state-owned oil corporation. He is past chair of the National Association of Manufacturers and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, and a Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development.

Mr. Fitterling has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
