Lay Koon Tan is an independent director of Flex and a member of its Audit Committee. He was the founding President and Chief Executive Officer and a board member of STATS ChipPAC Ltd., a leading provider of semiconductor packaging design, bump, probe, assembly, test and distribution solutions, from 2004 to 2015, after leading the formation of the company and its predecessor, ST Assembly Test Services Ltd. (2002 to 2004). He joined ST Assembly Test Services Ltd. in 2000 as its Chief Financial Officer.
Earlier in his career he was an investment banker with Salomon Smith Barney, the global investment banking unit of Citigroup Inc., and held various senior positions in government and financial institutions in Singapore, including the United Overseas Bank Limited.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia, where he was a Colombo Plan Scholar, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, where he was a Palmer Scholar.
